Bermudian tennis prospect Richard Mallory booked his place in the second qualifying round of the M15 Monastir tournament with a resilient straight-sets victory over home favourite Skander Nsairi.
Mallory, competing in the latest leg of the hard-court ITF World Tennis Tour event in Tunisia, showed tremendous grit to come through a grueling first-set tie-break before running away with the match 7-6, 6-1.
The opening set proved to be a tense, closely fought affair on the North African courts, with Nsairi matching the Bermudian baseline for baseline. However, Mallory kept his composure at the crucial moment to clinch the tie-break and break the Tunisian's resistance.
With the momentum firmly in his favour, Mallory dominated the second set, breaking Nsairi's serve early and dropping just a single game to wrap up a commanding victory.
The impressive win sees Mallory advance deeper into the qualifying draw as he bids to reach the tournament's main singles bracket.
