Corley edge out Coventry & North Warwickshire in Thriller

Bermuda’s Najiyah Raynor shone with a blistering half-century, but it was not enough to prevent Coventry & North Warwickshire CC 2nd XI from slipping to an agonizing two-wicket defeat against Corley CC.

In a high-scoring, see-saw encounters that went right down to the wire, the Warwickshire Cricket League clash ultimately swung in Corley's favor during a frantic final-over chase.

Choosing to set a target, Coventry & North Warwickshire built a formidable platform, eventually being bowled out for a highly competitive 248 runs. The centerpiece of the innings belonged entirely to the explosive Raynor.

The Bermudian middle-order batsman was in devastating form, smashing a brilliant 62 off just 50 balls. Raynor took the attack to the Corley seamers, clearing the ropes at will with 11 boundaries and a towering six.

His compatriot Oyinde Bascome chipped in with a gritty 12 to help steady the early order, but Coventry found it difficult to build a grandstand finish. The brakes were expertly applied by Corley's standout bowler, James Parker, who ripped through the tail to return clinical figures of 3 for 45 from his full 10-over allocation.

Chasing a daunting target of 249, Corley's response was anchored by a well-measured, vital half-century from Tom Parker. His composure at the crease allowed the visitors to stay precisely in touch with the required run rate as the afternoon progressed.

Coventry’s bowling attack refused to yield, led by a superb spell from Harsha Burla. Flexing his tactical muscle, Burla tore through the visitors' set batsmen to claim 3 for 50 off his nine overs, repeatedly dragging Coventry back into the contest.

However, despite Burla’s late breakthroughs and continuous scoreboard pressure, Corley’s lower order showed immense resolve. They managed to scramble across the line to reach 249 for 8, snatching a dramatic victory with just two wickets to spare in a cracking domestic advertisement for the sport.
