The West claimed bragging rights in the Under-12 Soft Ball All-Star Cricket match, sealing a tense three-wicket victory over the East at the Warwick Academy School Field.
In a brilliant showcase of Bermuda's emerging young cricket talent, a stellar rearguard knock from Tanner Correia proved to be the difference in a game defined by sharp bowling and shifting momentums.
Having been put in to bat first, the East struggled to find their rhythm against a disciplined, aggressive West bowling attack. They managed to navigate their allotted 20 overs but were restricted to 94 for 9.
Tami O'Brien played a vital anchor role for the East, top-scoring with a resilient 18 runs to give his side something to defend.
However, the innings belonged to West bowler Mason Barioni. In a masterclass of line and length, Barioni turned in the standout figures of the afternoon, conceding a meager three runs while picking up two crucial wickets during his stingy two-over spell.
Chasing 95 for victory, the West’s reply threatened to unravel as the East bowlers bit back.
Cairo Johnson spearheaded the East’s defensive effort with an exceptional, highly economical spell of his own. Johnson claimed two quick wickets for just four runs off his solitary over, ripping through the order to leave the result hanging in the balance.
With the pressure mounting, Tanner Correia stepped up. Displaying maturity beyond his years, Correia anchored the lower-order chase, striking a vital, unbeaten 17 off just 14 deliveries.
His calm presence at the crease steadyed the ship, allowing the West to hunt down the target and finish on 96 for 7 to secure a thrilling All-Star victory.
