Bermudian sprinting prospect Miles Outerbridge narrowly missed out on a place in the showpiece final of the Championship Boys' 100m at the New Balance Nationals Outdoor in Philadelphia.
Representing Montverde Academy, the speedster booked his place in the semi-finals on Friday with an authoritative victory in Heat 4 of the preliminaries. Crossing the line in a swift 10.54 seconds, Outerbridge ranked sixth-fastest overall heading into the next round.
Returning to the historic track at Franklin Field for the semi-finals, Outerbridge matched his rivals stride-for-stride but fell agonizingly short of the top-eight cutoff needed to advance to the final.
He crossed the line in 10.56 seconds, putting him first in his respective section but placing him 11th overall in an incredibly dense field where a fraction of a second separated the top runners.
Despite missing out on the final, it marks another high-caliber performance for the future University of Houston athlete, who continues to establish himself as one of the most promising young track talents from the Caribbean region.
