Daniel Phillips IslandStats.com Daniel Phillips has advanced to the second round of the M15 Kayseri tournament in Turkey after a dominant straight-sets victory over home favorite Birtan Duran.
Having successfully battled through a grueling qualifying campaign to secure his place in the main draw, the 21-year-old carried his fine form onto the Turkish hard courts to dispatch his opponent 6-3, 6-3.
Phillips asserted his authority early in the first set, breaking Duran's serve with aggressive baseline play and a commanding first serve. The local wildcard struggled to cope with the Bermudian’s depth and power, allowing Phillips to comfortably close out the opening set.
Duran attempted a fightback in the second set, but Phillips remained utterly unfazed. Displaying the clinical composure that has defined his European summer circuit on the ITF World Tennis Tour, the Bermudian broke through once again to seal a comprehensive victory in just under an hour and a half.
The win sees Phillips safely into the round of 16 as he continues to climb the international ranks and make waves on the global stage.
