Coventry & North Warwickshire CC kept their fine form rolling with a dominant six-wicket victory over Stratford-upon-Avon CC in the Warwickshire County Cricket League Premier Division.
A masterclass in chasing from Akshaykumar Patel and a disciplined bowling display ensured Coventry chased down their target with ease, leaving Stratford searching for answers.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Stratford-upon-Avon struggled to find momentum against a clinical Coventry bowling attack, eventually finishing on 195-8 from their allotted 50 overs.
Muhammed Naeem provided the anchoring innings for the visitors, hitting a resilient, unbeaten 57 off 66 balls. However, he found little sustained support at the other end.
Lee Golding was the star with the ball for Coventry, turning the screws with a superb spell of 2-16 from his eight overs. Bermudian international Okera Bascome also made his mark in the field, showing sharp reflexes to hold onto a crucial catch as Coventry kept the visitors firmly in check.
The chase was a straightforward affair for Coventry, who reached 196-4 to wrap up a comprehensive victory.
The headline act was undoubtedly Akshaykumar Patel, who took the Stratford bowling attack apart. Patel smashed a blistering, unbeaten 72 off just 43 balls, turning what could have been a tricky chase into a procession.
Bascome chipped in with a valuable 23 to help anchor the innings, ensuring Coventry never looked in danger. For Stratford, James Scott was the pick of the bowlers with a tidy 2-35 from his nine overs, but it proved to be a mere consolation as the hosts cruised across the line.
