A majestic captain’s knock from Terry Fray, backed up by a destructive five-wicket haul from Jonte Smith, propelled North Village to a commanding 64-run victory over Devonshire Recreation Club in a high-scoring Central County Cup clash.
Having won the toss and elected to bat, North Village laid down a massive marker, racking up an imposing total of 304 runs before being bowled out in the final over.
The bedrock of the innings was a blistering exhibition of power-hitting from captain Terry Fray. The skipper showcased his class from the outset, anchoring the top order with a devastating 87 runs off just 55 balls—a swashbuckling cameo punctuated by eight boundaries and three massive sixes.
Devonshire’s bowling unit endured a punishing afternoon, though two international standouts managed to restrict the damage late on. Zeko Burgess was the pick of the attack, returning clinical figures of four wickets for 41 runs across his 8.5 overs.
Faced with an asking rate of over six runs an over, Devonshire’s chase looked dead in the water early on before a spectacular, lone-warrior response from Ricardo Brangman Jr. re-ignited the contest.
Brangman played a masterclass of timing and placement, striking a brilliant, fighting century of 101 to keep the home side within striking distance of the target.
However, Devonshire ultimately had no answers for the tactical intelligence of North Village bowler Jonte Smith. Running through the middle and lower order, Smith turned in a match-winning performance, taking a superb five wickets for 61 runs across his 10-over allotment.
The home side were bundled out for 240, sealing a comprehensive victory for a rampant North Village outfit.
