Bermudian triathlete Erica Hawley has been officially named to the star-studded Elite Women's Start List for the upcoming 2026 World Triathlon Cup Huatulco. Scheduled for June 14th, the event will see the world's finest short-course specialists descend upon the stunning backdrop of the Plaza Santa Cruz in Huatulco, Mexico.
The inclusion caps an impressive block of international form for the Bermudian prospect, who will face not only a highly competitive field but also Huatulco's notoriously punishing tropical humidity.
The race will contested over a blistering, high-tempo sprint distance format. With the technical demands amplified by a mass beach start and sudden elevation changes early in the segments, tactical positioning will be paramount from the opening horn.
The action gets underway with a punishing 750-meter single-lap swim, launching directly off the sand with an Ocean Beach mass start. Navigating the surf efficiently will be critical for Hawley to establish herself in the primary front pack before transitioning to the shore.
Once on two wheels, the athletes face a fast and furious 20-kilometer bike segment split across four high-speed laps. While the circuit is predominantly flat—allowing the powerful riders to dictate a relentless tempo—it features a minor hill right at the start of the course map that will repeatedly test the field's anaerobic reserves on every single loop.
The race will ultimately be decided on the pavement during a grueling 5-kilometer run. Split over two laps, the footrace is almost entirely flat, but copies the cycling blueprint with a minor hill waiting for the athletes at the beginning of the lap.
For Hawley, maintaining structural efficiency through these quick, localized climbs under the brutal Mexican sun will be the key to unlocking a top-tier finish on the World Cup stage.
