Bermudian tennis star Daniel Phillips has rebounded from an early singles disappointment to secure his first professional ranking points of the 2026 season on the clay courts of Turkey.
The 21-year-old is currently in the country embarking on his highly anticipated Summer Tour, a crucial block of competitive matches designed to build momentum ahead of Bermuda's blockbuster Davis Cup tie against Mexico this September.
Phillips opened his campaign in the singles division of the M15 Kayseri tournament, entering the qualifying draw in search of a spot in the main bracket. Standing across the net was local hope Christopher Kucukhuseyin.
The Turkish player found his rhythm early in front of a home crowd, breaking the Bermudian's serve in both sets. Despite flashes of the powerful baseline play that earned Phillips All-Conference honors with Tulane University earlier this year, Kucukhuseyin proved too steady, wrapping up a straight-sets 6-2, 6-3 victory.
However, Phillips refused to let the early singles exit define his week, quickly turning his focus to the doubles court.
Partnering with Russia's Bogdan Seleznev, the unseeded duo made an immediate impact in the main draw. Squaring off against the international pairing of Bulgaria's Dinko Dinev and China's Ye Hongyu, Phillips and Seleznev put on a clinic in tandem tennis.
The Anglo-Russian partnership broke their opponents early in the first set to establish a commanding lead, ultimately sealing it 6-3. They carried that momentum directly into the second set, dominating the net exchanges and capitalizing on break point opportunities to run away with a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 triumph.
The victory guarantees Phillips his first world ranking points of the calendar year, providing a timely boost as he continues his preparation for international duty later this summer.
