Bishopston CC 242/9 Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC 140
Bishopston CC claimed a dominant 102-run victory over Bristol West Indian Phoenix CC on Saturday, as a masterclass in seam bowling from Lawrence Cook left the hosts reeling in their West of England Premier Cricket League encounter.
After being put into bat at the Rose Green Centre, Bishopston overcame a disciplined opening burst to post a formidable 242 for 9 from their 50 overs. The innings was built around a composed 66 from opener Arnold Otwani, who anchored the visitors' effort against a persistent Phoenix attack.
Bermudian international Cameron Jeffers played a vital role in the middle overs, delivering a full ten-over quota and finishing with figures of 1 for 55. However, it was Otis Lemon who proved the most clinical with the ball for the hosts, claiming 3 for 21 in a sharp five-over spell that helped prevent Bishopston from disappearing out of sight late in the innings.
The chase began with early intent, but Bristol West Indian Phoenix soon found themselves struggling against the accuracy of Lawrence Cook. In a devastating spell of swing bowling, Cook dismantled the Phoenix top and middle order, returning exceptional figures of 5 for 22 from his seven overs.
Ashur Morrison provided a lone spark of resistance for the home side, striking a defiant 55, while Jeffers chipped in with a brief 7 further down the order. However, the pressure of the mounting required rate and Cook’s relentless line proved too much.
The hosts were eventually bundled out for 140, falling well short of the target and surrendering maximum points to a clinical Bishopston side.
