The future of Bermudian athletics took center stage at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium as the 2026 BSSF Primary School Track and Field Preliminaries got underway. Under the watchful eyes of coaches and parents at the National Sports Centre, the island's youngest competitors delivered a series of gritty performances to secure their places in the upcoming finals.
The Over 10 Girls High Jump saw a dominant display from the Bermuda High School contingent, who secured the top two qualifying spots. Riley Evans led the field with a cleared height of 1.20 meters, demonstrating remarkable technique for her age group. She was followed closely by teammate Sam Tolosa and Dalton E Tucker’s Capree Smith, both of whom successfully navigated the bar at 1.15 meters to comfortably progress to the next round.
Endurance was the theme in the 800 Meter events, where the Under 9 Boys were led by a determined Elliott Davidge. Representing Saltus Grammar, Davidge clocked a time of 12:47.04 to lead the qualifiers, finishing ahead of Dalton E Tucker’s Kanzo Thompson and Warwick Academy’s Omari Barry. In the Under 10 Girls division, Diamond Morris of Saltus Grammar produced a tactical masterpiece to lead the qualifying times, followed by Nola Thatcher of Bermuda High School and Liliana Corbett of Warwick Academy.
The technical events provided further drama in the Over 10 Boys Long Jump, where Northlands Primary standout Tru Dillas laid down a significant marker. Dillas leaped to a distance of 3.96 meters to claim the top qualifying spot. The battle for the remaining positions was remarkably tight, with West Pembroke Primary teammates Jahkez Suhartono-Rayner and I'Zae-Migel Golding both recording identical jumps of 3.83 meters. With such narrow margins separating the field, the upcoming finals at the National Sports Centre promise to be a closely contested affair as these young athletes vie for primary school glory.
