Tomlinson & Papplewick Fall Short in Nottinghamshire Derby

IslandStats.com
Hucknall CC 233/6 Papplewick and Linby CC 218

Hucknall CC Won by 15 Runs

Zeri Tomlinson and his Papplewick and Linby CC teammates endured a frustrating afternoon at the New Gatehouse Ground, falling 15 runs short in a tense Nottinghamshire Premier League encounter against Hucknall CC.

In a match defined by steady accumulation and clinical death bowling, it was the visitors who held their nerve to defend a competitive total, despite a spirited middle-order fightback led by Smith and Bermudian talent Zeri Tomlinson.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Hucknall built their innings around a disciplined half-century from Archie Moore. Moore anchored the visitors' effort with a composed 73 from 91 deliveries, finding the boundary five times and clearing it twice to provide the platform for a late-innings flourish.

Hucknall eventually reached 233-6 from their 50 overs, a total that looked well within reach for the hosts. Alex Moor was the standout performer with the ball for Papplewick, finishing with impressive figures of 3-30 from his 10 overs, consistently troubling the Hucknall top order with his accuracy.

The Papplewick chase began with intent but struggled to find the necessary partnerships after the first wicket partnership of 70 was broken. Robin Smith injected much-needed momentum into the innings, smashing a rapid 57 from just 51 balls, including nine boundaries.

Tomlinson looked in fine touch during his stay at the crease, chipping in with a brisk 31 off 36 balls. The Bermudian showcased his range by hitting three fours and two sixes, momentarily swinging the pendulum back in favor of the home side.

However, the dismissal of the set batsmen proved fatal. Saif Ali turned the screw for Hucknall, returning figures of 3-39 as the Papplewick tail failed to wag. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 218, leaving them just shy of what would have been a significant victory.
