Semi-Final Showdowns on Penultimate Day in Tennis

IslandStats.com
The W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium provided a day of high-octane drama and clinical precision as the W.E.R. Joell Memorial Tennis Tournament moved into its penultimate stage.

In the Ladies A Division, Terceira Lee produced a resilient performance to overcome Arianna Parra Delgado. Lee dominated the opening exchanges to take the first set comfortably, but she was forced to dig deep in the second as Delgado mounted a spirited comeback. Ultimately, Lee’s consistency from the baseline proved decisive as she secured a 6-2, 7-5 victory to advance.

The Men’s A Group 1 saw an equally authoritative display from Tobiah Goodchild. Facing David Gravier, Goodchild dictated the tempo with a powerful service game, surrendering just one game in the opening set before navigating a tighter second frame to win 6-1, 6-4. However, Goodchild’s luck would turn later in the day during the doubles competition.

Men’s B Division action provided a mix of routine wins and a marathon struggle. In Group 1, Chris Grasso looked in fine form as he defeated Riley Maybury 6-2, 6-4, while Donn Trott delivered a nearly flawless performance to dismantle Adam Grasso 6-0, 6-2. The standout match of the afternoon occurred in Group 2, where Darren Woods and Florez Mariano engaged in a grueling three-set battle. After dropping the first set, Woods found another gear to take the second and eventually outlasted Mariano in a dramatic ten-point tiebreak finish, winning 3-6, 6-1, 12-10.

The spotlight then shifted to the Men’s Doubles Semi-Finals, where the championship favorites asserted their dominance. Sam Butler and Neal Towlson proved too strong for the pairing of Tobiah Goodchild and Zachary Mcguire, utilizing their veteran experience to secure a 6-3, 6-0 win. They will be joined in the final by Tariq Simons and David Thomas, who produced a clinical 6-3, 6-4 victory over Alex Cooper and Jack Keyes to set up a blockbuster conclusion to the tournament.
