Montgomery and Lee Stay Perfect in Joell Memorial

IslandStats.com
Wayne Montgomery and Terceira Lee maintained their dominant runs at the W.E.R. Joell Memorial Tennis Tournament, as a high-stakes third day of action at the National Tennis Stadium saw the championship contenders separate themselves from the pack.

In the Men’s A Division, Wayne Montgomery produced the most clinical performance of the tournament to date. Facing Tobiah Goodchild in Group One, Montgomery was quite simply untouchable, recording a ruthless "double bagel" 6-0, 6-0 victory. His ability to dictate play from the baseline has left his rivals searching for answers as the knockout stages loom. Zachary McGuire remained hot on Montgomery’s heels in the same group, dropping just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 demolition of Hugh Seymour. McGuire’s variety and composure at the net proved far too much for Seymour, setting up a potential grandstand finish to the group stage.

Group Two of the Men’s A Division provided a more tightly contested affair between Tariq Simons and Jack Keyes. In a match defined by heavy hitting and long rallies, Simons showed the necessary grit to edge out his opponent in straight sets. While Keyes pushed the contest deep in both frames, Simons’ experience on the big points secured a vital 6-4, 6-4 win to keep his title ambitions firmly on track.

The Ladies B Division delivered the headline matchup of the afternoon as two of the tournament's form players, Terceira Lee and Arianna Parra Delgado, went head-to-head. In a high-quality encounter that mirrored the intensity of the senior ranks, it was Lee who found the breakthrough at the crucial moments. Despite Delgado’s aggressive shot-making, Lee’s defensive resilience allowed her to secure a 6-4, 6-4 victory, marking her as the definitive favorite in the division.

Elsewhere, the Men’s B Division Group Two action saw Will Britten continue his impressive week. Facing Darren Woods, Britten utilized his superior serve to keep the match moving at a quick tempo, eventually closing out a comfortable 6-1, 6-1 win. As the round-robin matches conclude, the focus now shifts toward the semi-final seedings, with the island’s elite looking to carry this momentum into the business end of the week in Devonshire.
