Wheatley & Linberg Shine in Karting Championship

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Rubis Energy Karting Championship moved into its penultimate stage under clear skies this weekend, as 36 drivers took to the track to battle for vital points in the hunt for season glory.

With only two race days remaining in the 2025–2026 calendar, the tension was palpable across every division. While some championship leaders have established a comfortable cushion, several categories remain wide open, ensuring the title race will go down to the final afternoon of the season later this month.

In the L206 class, Robert Wheatley produced the standout performance of the day, delivering a flawless triple to take the checkered flag in all three heats. His dominance left the rest of the field fighting for the remaining podium spots. Jason North secured second place in the first and third heats, while Justin Lindo claimed the runner-up position in the second. The battle for third was a split affair, with Owen DeCosta taking the final podium spot in the opener before David Barbosa claimed it in the subsequent races.

The TAG Senior category proved to be a more varied affair at the front of the pack. Nathan DeCosta bookended the day with victories in the first and third heats, only to be denied a clean sweep by Ryan Burgess, who claimed top honors in the second race. Blake Horseman demonstrated his podium credentials with a brace of second-place finishes, while Jorja Thomas stepped up to take second in the final heat of the day.

Consistency was the defining theme in the TAG Junior class, where Jonathan Linberg was in a league of his own. Linberg swept all three heats with authority to tighten his grip on the standings. He was shadowed throughout the day by Syah Pedro, who maintained a firm hold on second place, while Alondro Albouy delivered a disciplined performance to secure three straight third-place finishes.

In the KZ Masters category, Jason DeCouto proved unbeatable, asserting his dominance by sweeping every heat. William Dunkley remained his closest challenger, maintaining constant pressure to secure a trio of second-place results.

The KZ class provided the fastest and most intense action of the afternoon, featuring a crowded grid of nine karts. Blake Horseman looked to be heading for a perfect day after winning the opening two heats, but he eventually had to settle for third in the finale. Ryan Rebello remained a constant threat, securing second in the first and third heats, while Ryan Burgess underscored the competitive nature of the division with a podium finish in every race, including two second-place results.

There was also plenty of encouragement for the next generation in the Cadet Arrive and Drive class. Mason Sousa delivered a composed performance to take top honors ahead of Miguel Cabral. Perhaps the most impressive story of the day came from newcomer Cooper Hillier, who marked his debut appearance on the track with an excellent third-place finish.

The paddock now prepares for a final showdown on April 26th. With championship silverware on the line and season-long rivalries reaching a boiling point, the final day of the Rubis Energy Championship promises to be a high-stakes conclusion to a thrilling year of racing.
