The leadership of the Western Counties Cricket Association (WCCA) was decided in dramatic fashion as incumbent Teresa Burrows successfully fended off a challenge from Darren Burchall 5 - 4 to remain at the helm.
The election, held at the Warwick Workmen’s Club, initially saw the association's member clubs split down the middle. In a rare tie, both Burrows - also the Somerset Bridge President, and Burchall — the president of Southampton Rangers—received the same amount of votes each during the Annual General Meeting.
With the presidency hanging in the balance, a second vote was required to break the deadlock.
However, after a high-stakes follow-up meeting, the clubs ultimately voted in favor of continuity, returning Burrows to the position she has held since 2019.
The result comes at a pivotal moment for the WCCA as it prepares for the 2026 season.
Burrows now faces the task of rebuilding trust across the member clubs—Somerset Bridge, Willow Cuts, Warwick Workmen’s, PHC, and Rangers—to ensure the prestige of the Warren Simmons Cup remains intact.
