Leverock Reflects on Agonizing Near-Miss in Haldwani

IslandStats.com
Kamau Leverock has admitted to a "scratchy" start in his latest Legends League Cricket outing, after falling just one run short of a landmark half-century in the India Tigers' narrow defeat to the Mumbai Spartans.

The hard-hitting all-rounder was the standout performer for the Tigers at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium, but his valiant 49 off 37 balls wasn't quite enough to haul his side across the line in a tense 17-run loss.

Speaking after the match to www.islandstats.com, Leverock revealed that a lack of recent competitive action and a challenging surface in Haldwani made for a tentative start to his innings.

"It was a bit scratchy at the start, a bit ansy," Leverock confessed. "I haven't played cricket for quite some time obviously, being it off-season in Bermuda, and the pitch was a bit difficult."

Despite the early rust, Leverock's natural aggression eventually took over. He struck eight boundaries and a towering six, providing a much-needed injection of "impetus" once he had adjusted to the local conditions.

The 31-year-old, who was a high-profile pick for the Tigers in the 2026 draft, explained that his recovery from a slow start was down to tactical patience.

"I just tried to put a little injection of impetus in my game and see if it came off," he said. "But after I calmed down and understood how the pitch was playing and picked my moments, then the runs came.".

While the performance re-established Leverock as one of the most dangerous middle-order threats in the competition, the final result left a bitter taste. He was eventually dismissed just one run shy of his fifty, a victim of a clinical spell from veteran seamer S. Sreesanth.

"Obviously devastated to be one run short of a half-century, and obviously lose," Leverock added. "But it’s a good experience, so I'm just enjoying it.".

The India Tigers will look to bounce back from the defeat when they return to action later this week, with Leverock’s form likely to be central to their hopes of climbing the Legends League table.
