Dominant displays define Day 2 National Squash Championships

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Squash Club in Devonshire was the focus of the island’s sporting landscape tonight as the Gnosis National Squash Championships reached a critical stage.

As Bermuda’s second-largest racquet sport took center stage, the Men’s Open draw saw a mix of veteran composure and ruthless efficiency. Micah Franklin, a perennial figure at the top of the local game, signaled his intentions with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Jason Shrubb. Franklin’s control was evident throughout as he secured a triple 11-5 scoreline to advance.

Taylor Carrick was equally impressive in his outing against Dylan Pratt. Carrick surrendered just eight points across three games, including a dominant second set which he took 11-1, to record a 3-0 win. In the most contested match of the men's session, Kristian Muldoon overcame a second-game blip against Alex Southern to triumph 3-1. Despite Southern leveling the match at one game apiece with a clinical 11-2 display, Muldoon regained his rhythm to close out the final two sets 11-6.

The Women’s Open produced equally compelling narratives as the favorites looked to assert their dominance. Melina Turk delivered a masterclass in precision during her 3-0 victory over Susie Howells, dropping only 12 points in a swift performance. Sydney Wallace also progressed, though she was pushed harder by Abigail Brewer. After the pair split the opening two games, Wallace showed greater stamina in the closing stages to take the match 3-1 with consecutive 11-8 scores.

Elsewhere in the women's draw, Eilidh Franklin showcased her mental toughness after a slow start against Juliette Ferrari-McComb. Having lost the first game 11-4, Franklin pivoted her strategy to sweep the next three games in convincing fashion, eventually securing a 3-1 victory. The evening’s schedule concluded with Alex Furtado and Rachel Barnes preparing to settle their own place in the next round of the island's premier domestic event.
