George Washington University saw their four-year reign at the top of the Atlantic 10 come to an end, as they were narrowly edged out by a resurgent University of Richmond squad. In a high-stakes battle at the Hampton Aquaplex, George Washington claimed second place with 572.5 points, finishing just 27.5 points behind the Spiders, who secured their 17th conference title.
Bermudian international Logan Watson-Brown was a central figure for George Washington throughout the four-day meet, contributing vital points across a demanding schedule of individual events and relays. The graduate student began her campaign with a lead-off leg in the Women’s 200-Yard Medley Relay, helping her quartet to a sixth-place finish in 1:40.61. She later returned to the pool for the Women’s 800-Yard Freestyle Relay, swimming a strong third leg to help secure fourth place in 7:21.35.
In the individual backstroke events, Watson-Brown showed her versatility, finishing 18th in the 100-Yard Backstroke preliminaries with a time of 56.92 and 21st in the 200-Yard Backstroke in 2:05.70. She also featured in a highly competitive 200-Yard Freestyle field, placing 23rd in the morning session with a time of 1:53.32.
While the result snaps George Washington’s streak of four consecutive championship sweeps, the performance underscored the depth of a team that pushed Richmond until the final relay. Watson-Brown and her teammates will now look ahead to the national stage, with several members of the squad having secured qualifying times for the upcoming post-season championships.
