Windward Islands edge Leeward Islands in Super50 Thriller

IslandStats.com
The Windward Islands secured a hard-fought three-wicket victory over the Leeward Islands as the CG United Women’s Super50 Cup continued at the Cumberland Playing Field in St. Vincent. In a match defined by disciplined bowling and a tense run chase, the Leeward Islands were unable to defend a modest total despite a spirited effort in the field.

Having won the toss and elected to bat first, the Leeward Islands struggled to build significant partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 125 in 34.5 overs. Qiana Joseph provided the backbone of the innings with a composed 44, but she found little support as wickets fell at regular intervals. The Windward Islands' bowling attack was led by Aldith Gasper, who delivered a clinical spell to return figures of three wickets for 28 runs from her ten overs, including three maidens.

The chase proved to be a nervy affair for the Windward Islands, who eventually reached their target of 126 for seven. The mainstay of their innings was Janella Glasgow, who anchored the chase with a vital 54 not out to see her side across the finish line.

The Leeward Islands' defense was spearheaded by Shanisha Hector, who continued her fine form with the ball by taking two wickets for 22 runs from her four overs. Despite the close result, Bermudian all-rounder Katherine Bean-Rosario was once again missing from the starting lineup, having also sat out the previous fixture against Barbados earlier in the week.
