Domestic Camp Key to Unearthing Bermuda's Evolving Talent

Bermuda Senior Men’s head coach Michael Findlay has emphasized that the primary objective of the current domestic mini-camp is a continuous "player identification strategy" as Bermuda prepares for a two-match friendly series against Portland Hearts of Pine. The matches, scheduled for February 5th and 8th at the Flora Duffy South Field Stadium, will feature a Bermuda Select squad comprised of both domestic and overseas-based players.

Speaking on the goals for the camp, Findlay noted that the coaching staff is looking in "every spot we can" to bring light to an evolving national program. This includes a heavy focus on players currently plying their trade domestically on the island.

The camp serves a dual purpose: maintaining the sharpness of established senior squad members and integrating fresh faces. Findlay highlighted several key focus areas for the staff:

Senior Benchmarks: Established domestic members of the squad are being used as a "marker" for younger players and those recently recommended to the staff.
Tactical Gaps: The staff is evaluating competency and potential in specific scenarios where "gaps" have been identified within the existing squad.
Equal Opportunity: Every player in the camp is being given the same platform to perform within the training environment and the two upcoming matches against the American professional side.

In a move to strengthen the national team's developmental pathway, the mini-camp also includes Cecoy Robinson and Jensen Rogers from the Under-20 technical staff.

Findlay explained that this inclusion is designed to give the youth coaches practical activity and "match prep" experience before the Under 20’s head to Costa Rica for their own qualifiers at the end of February. The goal is to ensure the Under 20 management team is "up to speed" and can effectively incorporate their plans before entering their competitive window.

The visiting Portland Hearts of Pine are currently preparing for their second season in USL League One, having reached the playoff semi-finals in their inaugural 2025 campaign.
