Rhys Insley and Sam Williamson, representing Harbour Swim Club, have delivered outstanding performances at the JP Fiset Invitational meet in Edmonton, Canada, securing gold medals and setting multiple personal best times.
Sam Williamson started his campaign strongly in the Men’s 50m Butterfly preliminaries, clocking a time of 26.07 to secure the second seed position for the 16 and over A Final.
In the final, Williamson found another gear, swimming a new Personal Best time of 25.40, which was fast enough to win him the Gold Medal in the event.
The most exciting race of the night came in the Men’s 50m Breaststroke 16 and over A Final, where both Bermudians were pitted against each other.
Earlier in the preliminaries, Insley and Williamson had shown strong form, with Insley setting a Personal Best time of 29.72 and Williamson clocking 30.72. This sent Insley into the A Final seeded 1st and Williamson seeded 3rd.
In the final, racing side-by-side, the Harbour Swim Club teammates hit the wall simultaneously, resulting in a remarkable tie for first place. Both Insley and Williamson were awarded the Gold Medal with an identical time of 29.68. The result also marked a further Personal Best for Insley.
