Bermuda’s rising pickleball talent, Imani Phillips, faced a challenging opening draw in the Women’s Singles Pro Division at the 2025 GEICO APP Tour Championships in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Phillips was drawn against the highly competitive Croatian player Domenika Turkovic in the Round of 32. Turkovic, who is ranked highly in women's singles on the RTA Pickleball Tour, advanced by defeating Phillips in straight sets, 15-8 and 15-9.
The match served as a significant test for the Bermudian athlete as she continues her ambition to solidify her place on the professional circuit and gain experience against world-class fields. Phillips had previously faced Turkovic in a group stage match at the English Open. Despite the loss, Phillips is focused on continuing her development in the professional arena, having actively sought high-level competition and achieved previous success, including winning a Mixed Doubles title in the Cayman Islands.
