Round One of the 8th Portugal Grand Prix in Vilamoura roared back into life on Day Three, with three races successfully completed in mixed conditions. Bermuda’s Sebastian Kempe capitalised on the increased action, racing up the leaderboard in the highly competitive ILCA 7 fleet.
The prestigious regatta, hosted by Vilamoura Sailing, had a slow start, accumulating only two races over the first two days. However, Day Three saw the completion of three races, bringing the total number of races in the series to five. The ILCA 7 fleet continues to feature an elite group of young sailors competing at the highest level.
Bermuda's Sebastian Kempe delivered his best day of the regatta thus far, posting three excellent finishes that saw him make a massive jump up the standings.
His performance started strongly, finishing the first race of the day in 13th place. He improved further in the second race, crossing the line in 11th place. Kempe capped his exceptional day with his best finish yet, crossing the line 4th in the final race of the session.
Kempe now goes into the final day of racing in 21st position overall, having climbed from his previous 40th place standing. He carries a Net Points total of 44, firmly placing him in contention for a strong overall result.
