The Bermuda Men’s Squash team achieved their primary objective at the Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Senior Championships by qualifying for the CAC Games, despite falling 10-7 to Guyana in the Bracket 1 Semi-Final.
Going into the Semi-Final, Bermuda knew they had already secured their spot in the highly coveted CAC Games. With regional powerhouses Barbados and Guyana already qualified, Bermuda needed to finish within the top four, a position guaranteed by reaching the Semi-Final stage of the tournament.
The Semi-Final clash against hosts Guyana proved to be a nail-biting encounter. Bermuda initially took the lead, going up 3-1 after Taylor Carrick defeated Sam Ince-Carvahal 3-1 (11-8, 9-11, 11-6, 11-5).
However, Guyana quickly leveled the score at 4-4 as Jason-Ray Khalil defeated Club Champion Anaya Smith 3-1 (11-7, 6-11, 11-7, 11-2).
Guyana then surged ahead, taking a 7-5 lead after Daniel Ince defeated Micah Franklin 3-1 (11-8, 11-2, 9-11, 11-7).
The hosts then clinched the tie after Shomari Wiltshire defeated Noah Browne in a dramatic five-set thriller. Browne fought hard, but Wiltshire ultimately secured the win 3-2 with scores of 7-11, 11-9, 2-11, 12-10, 11-1, extending the Guyana lead to 10-7.
With the defeat, Bermuda will now play for third and fourth place in the Men’s Tournament, but the mission was accomplished: they successfully advanced to the CAC Games.
