In a dramatic late-stage switch, Guyana has been confirmed as the new host for the upcoming Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Senior Championships, stepping in with just two weeks' notice after Jamaica was forced to withdraw following a devastating hurricane.
The swift decision by the Guyana Squash Association (GSA) and CASA President, David Fernandes, ensures the event, originally postponed from August to avoid the Pan-American Championships, will proceed as scheduled from November 23rd to 30th.
Bermuda will send a formidable line-up to Guyana, eager to test themselves against the region's best. The hosts, Guyana, enter the competition as the reigning champions, having secured the overall team title for four consecutive years.
The Bermudian squad is as follows: Senior Men’s Division: Taylor Carrick, Micah Franklin, Noah Browne, Anaya Smith, and Dvario Thompson. Senior Women’s Team: Melina Turk, Abigail Brewer, and Alex Dillas. Men's Veterans: Stephen Smith (Men’s Open 40), Hadleigh Farrer (Men’s Open 50), and Peter Drury (Men’s Open 60). Women’s Veterans: Susie Howells (Women’s Open 40), Deborah Sagurs (Women’s Open 50), and Denise Kyme (Women’s Open 60).
In a notable gesture of regional solidarity, any surplus funds generated from hosting the championships in Guyana will be donated directly to support hurricane relief efforts in Jamaica.
The tournament is a crucial event, as the team competition serves as a qualifier for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games.
