Unfortunately, the promising run of Bermudian squash player Taylor Carrick in the $3,000 Men's La Classique Gatineau Challenger 2025 in Quebec, Canada, has come to an end, following a grueling five-set battle in the quarter-finals.
Carrick, who entered the tournament as the top seed and had advanced smoothly through his opening match, eventually bowed out after a 56-minute epic against local Canadian opponent Will Harris.
In a match that swung dramatically, Carrick initially appeared to be in complete control. He stormed into a two-sets-to-love lead, comfortably taking the first game 11-4, and then edging a tight second set 12-10. The Bermudian was just one set away from a semi-final berth.
However, Harris, spurred on by the home crowd, mounted a remarkable comeback. The Canadian dug deep to claim the third set 11-8, a crucial turning point. This shifted the momentum, and Harris then dominated the fourth set, winning it 11-2, completely levelling the match.
The deciding fifth set was a tense affair, with both players battling fiercely for every point. Ultimately, it was Harris who held his nerve in the crucial moments, clinching the final set 12-10 to complete a stunning turnaround and bring Carrick's tournament journey to an end.
