Paralympian Yushae DeSilva-Andrade has brought the curtain down on Bermuda’s participation in the World Boccia Americas Regional Championships, concluding her competitive run against one of the continent’s toughest opponents.
Competing in the BC1 Female Division, DeSilva-Andrade once again faced Andreza Oliveira of Brazil. Oliveira, a highly-ranked player who has previously defeated the Bermudian in international competition, proved too strong once more, securing a 5-2 victory.
The match marks the final appearance for Bermuda at the championships in Cali, with both DeSilva-Andrade and fellow athlete Omar Hayward facing a steep learning curve throughout the tournament, battling against a high-calibre international field.
While Hayward had secured his first win earlier in the week, the overall competition highlighted the intense level of play in the Americas region. DeSilva-Andrade will now shift her focus to the next stage of her international calendar, continuing her preparations for upcoming global events.
