Bermuda's Kaden Hopkins and Nic Narraway have concluded their campaigns at the Green Mountain Stage Race (GMSR) in New England with impressive overall results, with both riders proving they could compete with the professional teams despite being a small, two-man squad.
Nic Narraway finished in an excellent 12th place overall, with a combined time of 7:52:02, just 1 minute and 43 seconds behind the overall winner, James Schurman. Kaden Hopkins also secured a strong finish, placing 16th overall with a total time of 7:52:40, 2 minutes and 21 seconds adrift of the winner.
Speaking about their performance, Hopkins told www.islandstats.com: “I am really happy with how the weekend went. Nic and I really pulled our weight as such a small team. In all four stages, we were very active and instigated a lot of the action and decisive moves."
Hopkins acknowledged the challenge of competing against much larger professional squads. "We didn’t come away with any stage wins, but it is not a surprise having a team of two against teams of seven, eight, nine guys," he said. "I think we had a really positive weekend of racing, and I think both of us were satisfied with the results we got on different stages."
The final criterium saw both riders finish with the same time as the stage winner, confirming their ability to stay with the main bunch in a high-pressure finale and setting a positive tone for the rest of their season.
