Bermuda's athletes continued to push their limits on day four of the Island Games in Orkney, with a mix of strong performances and tough challenges across golf, badminton, lawn bowls, and squash.
Golfers Fight for Position
In the Ladies Individual Golf event, Sienna Mosquera saw her medal hopes take a slight hit, carding a third-round 78 to slip to third place with a three-round total of 225. Morgan Lightbourne sits in 18th with a total of 252, while Tracy Burgess is T22nd with 254 after an 86. Katrin Burnie is currently 30th with a total of 274 following a third-round 108. The combined Bermuda Women's team now holds fourth place with a score of 728.
For the Men's Individual Golf, Jarryd Dillas delivered a superb third-round 68, moving him to T11th with a total of 213. Damian Palanyandi is 22nd after a third-round 78, ending the day on 220. Jamie Macmillan impressed with a 70, placing him 32nd at 228, while Jevon Roberts is 43rd with a 79 for a total of 238. The Men's Team currently occupies seventh place with a score of 657.
Badminton Players Exit Early
The Badminton singles tournaments saw Bermuda's representatives face strong opposition. In the Men's Singles Round of 16, Aaron Simmons was defeated by Rúni Øster of the Faroe Islands, going down 21-10, 21-9. Somers Stevenson's run in the Women's Round of 64 also came to an end, as she lost to Carys Batiste of Guernsey 21-8, 21-7. Emma Moran-Lee went down to Jay Webber from Guernsey 21-11, 21-19.
Mixed Fortunes in Lawn Bowls
On the Lawn Bowls greens, Bermuda's Men's Triples experienced a day of mixed fortunes. They secured a good 13-10 victory over the Falkland Islands but then faced a narrow 17-15 defeat at the hands of Guernsey.
Squash Duo Bow Out
In Squash, the Men's Doubles Quarter-Finals saw Taylor Carrick and Neil Pohlman unable to advance, as they were defeated by the Jersey pairing of Matthew Boote and Antony Harkin with scores of 15-8, 15-9.
Bermuda's athletes will look to build on their performances and continue to represent the island with pride as the Island Games progress.
