Bean-Rosario's Leeward Islands Cruise Past Guyana

Leeward Islands Under-19s Women Won by 7 Wickets

Guyana Under 19 Women 74 Leeward Islands Under 19 Women 77/3

Katherine Bean-Rosario and her Leeward Islands Under 19 Women's teammates delivered a commanding performance today, securing a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Guyana's Under 19 Women at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex in Trinidad during the West Indies Rising Stars Women's Under-19 Championships. The win showcased a strong collective effort, highlighted by impressive bowling and a composed chase.

Having won the toss and elected to bowl, the Leeward Islands attack made early inroads, dismantling the Guyanese batting line-up. Guyana struggled to build significant partnerships and were eventually bowled out for a modest total of 74 runs. Cianna Barkoye provided some resistance for Guyana, top-scoring with a resilient 24 not out, but lacked support from her teammates.

The star of the bowling attack for the Leeward Islands was undoubtedly Sainavi Kambalapalli, who produced a superb spell of off-spin. Kambalapalli ripped through the Guyanese middle order, returning exceptional figures of 4 wickets for just 22 runs from her seven overs, one of which was a maiden. Behind the stumps, Bean-Rosario was sharp, holding onto two crucial catches to aid her bowlers' efforts.

In response, the Leeward Islands began their chase with confidence, despite losing an early wicket. They steadily chipped away at the target, reaching 75 for 3 to seal the victory with plenty of overs to spare. Sainavi Kambalapalli, fresh from her bowling heroics, also led the charge with the bat, finishing as the top scorer with an unbeaten 37 runs. Bean-Rosario contributed a valuable 7 runs to the chase, helping to stabilise the innings.

For Guyana, Danellie Manns was the pick of the bowlers, claiming one wicket for 10 runs from her 1.4 overs, but the total proved too small to defend against a determined Leeward Islands side.

The victory marks a significant step for the Leeward Islands Under 19 Women, demonstrating their potential in the regional competition.
