Bean-Rosario Helps Leeward Islands Pick Up Big Win

After a frustrating start to the tournament marked by abandoned matches, Bermudian cricketer Katherine Bean-Rosario and her Leeward Islands Under-19 teammates finally completed a full fixture at the West Indies Rising Stars Women's Under-19 Championships today, securing a commanding 81-run victory over the Windward Islands Under-19 Women’s team at the Diego Martin Sporting Complex.

The Leeward Islands batted first, posting a total of 126 before being bowled out in 26.5 overs. Sainavi Kambalapalli led the scoring with 27, but Bermudian talent Bean-Rosario played a crucial role, contributing 26 runs off 36 balls, including 5 boundaries. Amiah Gilbert was the pick of the Windward Islands bowlers, taking 3 wickets for 23 runs from her 5 overs.

In reply, the Windward Islands struggled to gain momentum and were ultimately dismissed for just 45 runs in 15.4 overs. Devona Tyson was their top scorer with 7. The destruction was largely orchestrated by Kambalapalli, who delivered a superb bowling performance, claiming an impressive 6 wickets for just 8 runs from 4.4 overs. Behind the stumps, Bean-Rosario also showcased her fielding prowess, holding onto two crucial catches.

This comprehensive victory will be a welcome boost for the Leeward Islands squad, providing them with crucial points and momentum in the tournament after their earlier weather-affected matches.

Light Blue Select Claims Victory in St. George's Cup Match Trial

The annual anticipation for the Cup Match Classic continues to build, with the St. George’s Cricket Club hosting a crucial trial match today. The Light Blue Select emerged victorious, showcasing strong performances with both bat and ball against the Dark Blue team.

The Dark Blue side batted first but struggled to build a substantial total, being bowled out for 122 runs. Former captain Onias Bascome was the top scorer for the Dark Blue with a knock of 30. However, the standout bowling performance came from the Light Blue's Luke Horan, who dismantled the opposition with impressive figures of 4 wickets for just 11 runs from 9 overs, including three maidens.

In response, the Light Blue team chased down the target convincingly, posting 203 for 6. The innings was dominated by Isaiah O'Brien, who delivered a blistering knock of 73 runs off just 58 balls, featuring 7 fours and 4 sixes. Jamar Stovel was the pick of the Dark Blue bowlers.

The result will undoubtedly give the Light Blue Select players a boost as the selectors deliberate on the final squad for the highly anticipated Cup Match Classic.
