Bermudian cricketer Katherine Bean Rosario and her Leeward Islands Under-19s teammates saw their opening match in the West Indies Rising Stars Women's Under-19 Championship brought to an early halt due to rain.
The match against Trinidad and Tobago Under-19s Women was taking place at the Sir Frank Worrell Memorial Ground in St Augustine. After Trinidad and Tobago won the toss and elected to send the Leeward Islands in to bat, the visitors had made a strong start before the weather intervened.
When rain forced the suspension of play, the Leeward Islands had reached a promising 120 for no loss after 20.3 overs, setting a solid foundation for their innings.
Bean Rosario, who recently received the Sakena Clarke Scholarship Award from the Bermuda Football Association for her achievements in football, is also a highly promising cricketer. She is representing the Leeward Islands in this tournament as part of an arrangement between the Bermuda Cricket Board and Cricket West Indies, aiming to gain valuable high-level experience. This is her final year playing in the tournament, and she has spoken about her determination to make the most of the opportunity, having worked hard on her batting and bowling during the pre-tournament camp.
The match will now likely be subject to a revised schedule or a result determined by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method, depending on tournament regulations. Fans will be eager to see if Bean Rosario and her Leeward Islands teammates can continue their strong start once play resumes or in their next fixture.
