Bermuda's promising young squash talents have concluded their campaign at the 2025 Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships in the Cayman Islands, with both the Boys and Girls teams ultimately finishing in a respectable fifth place in the highly anticipated team competition.
The final day saw both Bermudian squads in action, battling for their ultimate team positions after a challenging week of individual and doubles play.
Boys' Team Secures Fifth Place
The Bermuda Boys team defeated the Cayman Islands by a score of 21-11 in their 5th-8th place playoff match. Individual wins were secured by:
Kaiden DeSilva who won his Boys Under 11 match 11-7, 11-9, 11-5 against Chad Franklin.
Benjamin Sherratt who won his Boys Under 13 match against Bodhi Philp 11-3, 11-4, 11-3.
Owen Rosorea who won his Boys Under 17 match against Charlie Makin 13-11, 3-11, 11-6, 11-3.
Eli Carpol who defeated Gaven Ramos in the Boy’s Under 19 number two spot 11-2, 11-2, 11-2.
Despite individual losses from Mason Smith (U15) and Andrew Cox (U19 #1), the combined effort secured the win.
Bermuda then faced the British Virgin Islands (BVI) in the fifth-place match, securing a dominant 20-10 victory. Key wins came from:
Kaiden DeSilva (U11: 11-9, 13-11, 11-4 vs. Toby Evans).
Benjamin Sherratt (U13: 11-6, 11-3, 11-6 vs. Ian Cruikshank).
Mason Smith (U15: 11-7, 11-8, 11-7 vs. Ethan Mohamed).
Owen Rosorea (U17: 11-2, 11-4, 11-5 vs. Jakob Noblett).
Individual losses to Daniel Henderson and Oliver Henderson in the Boys Under 19 divisions did not prevent the team from clinching fifth.
Girls' Team Finishes Fifth After Close Battles
The Bermuda Girls team concluded their campaign with a 17-17 draw against Trinidad, a testament to their fighting spirit.
Gabrielle Turchiaro won her Girls Under 19 number one spot match 11-4, 11-3, 11-2 against Elise Mathura.
Tyler Komposch won her Girls Under 19 number two spot match against Saanvi Chattergoon 11-8, 11-5, 12-10.
Mckenna Kyme won her Girls Under 15 match in a hard-fought five-setter against Aaniyah Ramdeen (8-11, 7-11, 12-10, 11-3, 11-4).
Individual losses to Josie Thong (U17), Gia Ghuran (U13), and Marley Price (U13) led to the drawn team score.
In their final match, the Bermuda Girls went down 20-10 to the host Cayman Islands.
Rose Paulos won the Girls Under 19 number two spot match against Milana Thompson 11-1, 12-10, 11-3.
Somers Stevenson won her Girls Under 17 Division match by default.
Despite losses from Gabrielle Turchiaro (U19), Mckenna Kyme (U15), and Taylor Kyme (U13), the team’s overall performance saw them secure fifth.
Bermuda's strong contingent demonstrated significant progress throughout the championships, securing individual medals and showcasing competitive spirit in the team events against tough regional opposition, boding well for the future of squash on the island.
