Junior Squash Teams Face Tough Battles on CASA Day Six

Bermuda's promising young squash talents continued their campaign on Day Six of the 2025 Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships in the Cayman Islands, as the highly anticipated Team competition delivered a full day of matches. Both the Boys and Girls teams endured challenging encounters against strong regional rivals.

Boys' Team: Mixed Results Against Guyana and Jamaica

The Bermuda Boys team began the day against Guyana, ultimately going down 21-12 in points. The individual match results saw mixed fortunes for Bermuda. In the Boys Under 19 number one spot, Guyana’s Louis Da Silva defeated Andrew Cox 11-2, 11-4, 11-2. However, Bermuda’s Eli Carpol secured a win in the Boys Under 19 number two spot, defeating Shiloh Asregado 11-2, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9.

In the Boys Under 17 match, Bermuda’s Owen Rosorea continued his strong individual form, defeating Blake Edwards 11-4, 11-2, 11-9. The Boys Under 15 match-up saw Guyana’s Justin Ten Pow defeat individual gold medalist Mason Smith 11-2, 11-3, 11-9. The Boys Under 13 match went the distance, with Guyana’s Ethan Bulkan defeating Benjamin Sherratt in a five-set thriller: 4-11, 11-6, 6-11, 11-5, 11-3. In the Boys Under 11 match, Guyana’s Zion Hickerson defeated Kaiden DeSilva 11-3, 11-3, 11-6.

Later in the day, the Bermuda Boys rebounded to defeat Jamaica 21-10. Andrew Cox secured a dominant win in the Boys Under 13 number one spot, defeating Max Henzell 11-1, 11-2, 11-4. Eli Carpol also claimed a convincing victory in his Boys Under 19 number two spot match, defeating Cole Brown 11-1, 11-1, 11-1.

However, in the Boys Under 17 match, Owen Rosorea went down to Ethan Miller 11-3, 11-0, 11-0, and James Bigley fell in the Boys Under 15 match to Govind Venugopal 7-11, 1-7, 11-4, 12-10. Bermuda's Benjamin Sherratt continued his strong play, defeating Jaden Emery 11-3, 11-2, 11-3 in the Boys Under 13 match, and Kaiden DeSilva won his Boys Under 11 match by default.

Girls' Team Battles Against Barbados and Jamaica

The Girls team faced a tough challenge against Barbados, going down 30-3. Gabrielle Turchiaro fell to Barbados’ Eboni Atherley 11-1, 11-4, 11-2 in the Girls Under 19 number one spot. Tyler Komposch then went down in the Girls Under 19 number two spot, falling 11-6, 12-10, 12-10 to Sarrayah Yearwood.

Somers Stevenson pushed her opponent hard in the Girls Under 17 match that went five sets, eventually losing 4-11, 11-2, 11-6, 10-12, 17-15 to Lenna Hamati. In the Girls Under 15 match, Mckenna Kyme went down to Olivia Watts 6-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-6, and Taylor Kyme fell in her Girls Under 13 match to Morgan Daniel 11-3, 11-6, 11-6.

The Bermuda Girls then faced Jamaica, ultimately falling 15-12 in points. In the Girls Under 19 number one spot, Mehar Trehan defeated Gabrielle Turchiaro 12-10, 11-5, 11-7, and Elle Wilson defeated Tyler Komposch 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 in the Girls Under 19 number two spot.

However, Bermuda saw wins from Somers Stevenson in her Girls Under 17 match, defeating Priya Stoddart 11-5, 11-9, 11-7, and Mckenna Kyme won her Girls Under 15 match, defeating Varenya Singh 11-3, 11-8, 11-1. The Girls Under 13 match was another five-setter, with Marley Price defeating Taylor Kyme 14-16, 11-4, 7-11, 11-5, 11-7.

The team competition continues to provide invaluable experience for Bermuda's junior squash players as they battle against the region's best.
