Bermuda's promising young squash talents have begun their campaign at the 2025 Junior Caribbean Area Squash Association (CASA) Championships in the Cayman Islands, with several players engaging in gruelling five-set thrillers on the opening day.
The prestigious tournament, which has brought together around 200 players from 24 countries across the region, immediately showcased its high-level competition.
In a remarkable display of resilience, Bermuda's Gabrielle Turchiaro emerged victorious in her second match in the Girls Under 19 Division. She defeated Jamaica's Elle Wilson in a captivating 35-minute battle that went the full five sets, with Turchiaro ultimately prevailing 11-6, 9-11, 6-11, 11-3, 11-7.
The Boys Under 17 Division also saw an epic five-set contest involving a Bermudian. However, on this occasion, it was a narrow defeat for Gaven Ramos, who went down to the Cayman Islands' Michael Schrah after a marathon 42-minute encounter. Schrah took the hard-fought match 11-3, 5-11, 14-12, 3-11, 14-16.
Adding to Bermuda's fighting spirit, Taylor Kyme secured a tough five-set victory in the Girls Under 13 Division. Kyme demonstrated composure to overcome Tehani Munroe from Guyana with a scoreline of 9-11, 11-5, 11-6, 8-11, 11-5.
These opening day results highlight the competitive nature of the Junior CASA Championships and the determination of Bermuda's rising squash stars as they battle for regional honours.
