Sailors Jordan Vieira and Paul Rodrigues Jr. played key roles as their Eckerd Open Sailing team finished a respectable seventh at the Admiral's Cup regatta. The team's performance was highlighted by a dominant victory in the A Division.
Vieira skippered the A Division boat, with Tia Soultanakis and Carter Morin as crew. The trio sailed impressively throughout the 12-race event, securing victory in their division with a total of 60 points. This placed them a significant 18 points ahead of their nearest rivals from St. Mary's. Their consistent performance included seven top-five finishes, punctuated by decisive wins in races No. 5 and 6.
Rodrigues Jr. took the helm of the B Division boat, with Avery Guck and Lily Schwartz crewing. They faced a tougher challenge, finishing in 13th place in their division with a total of 132 points.
Overall, Eckerd College accumulated 192 points, finishing seventh in the regatta, just four points shy of sixth place. The overall champions of the Admiral's Cup were Hobart and William Smith Colleges, who finished with a total of 158 points. Vieira's stellar performance in the A Division was a significant contribution to Eckerd's overall result.
