Resilient Millington Battles to 24th in Pan Am Road Race

Charlotte Millington showed immense grit and determination in the Junior Women’s Road Race at the Pan American Championships in Uruguay, finishing in 24th place after a challenging event.

Facing the daunting task of racing solo against large, well-supported national teams, Millington rode intelligently, skillfully avoiding several crashes that punctuated the race. Her resilience was truly tested when she was caught in a mid-race pile-up, causing her and a small group to lose crucial contact with the main peloton.

Demonstrating incredible fighting spirit, Millington and her breakaway group embarked on a relentless chase that lasted for almost an entire lap. Their perseverance paid off as they managed to rejoin the leaders – a testament to Millington’s tenacity and determination.

Millington eventually crossed the finish line in 24th place with a time of 1 hour 55 minutes and 48 seconds. This was the same time recorded by the winner, Luciana Bentancur of Colombia. Compatriot Valentina Marin Guarin Yalecza finished second, while Argentina's Ayelen Diaz Guadalupe rounded out the podium.

Despite the challenges faced, Millington's performance, particularly her impressive recovery to rejoin the peloton, showcases her potential and fighting spirit on the continental stage. Racing against strong national teams, her 24th-place finish is a commendable achievement.
