Frustrating Day on the Med Tests Kempe & Penruddocke

IslandStats.com
The second day of the 56th French Olympic Week in Hyères proved to be a patience-testing affair for Bermudian sailors Sebastian Kempe and Adriana Penruddocke, along with the other 727 competitors representing 56 nations.

The anticipated racing action was largely subdued as the Mediterranean Sea offered conditions more suited for sunbathers than sailors. However, the day did culminate in a late flurry of activity as the breeze finally filled in.

Both Penruddocke in the ILCA 6 fleet (76 entries) and Kempe in the significantly larger ILCA 7 fleet (112 entries) were eager to build on their regatta starts.

In the ILCA 6 fleet, only a single race was possible. Denmark's Anna Munch continued her impressive form, making it a perfect two days by securing victory in the day's only race for the yellow group. This propelled her into the outright overall lead after her two wins in the blue group on the opening day. Penruddocke currently sits in 23rd position with 19 net points.

The ILCA 7 fleet also managed to complete just one race. With the forecast predicting stronger winds in the form of the Mistral for the upcoming two days, there is an expectation of significant shifts in the overall standings within this large and competitive fleet. Hong Kong's Nicholas Halliday jumped to the top of the leaderboard after finishing second in the solitary race for the yellow group. Kempe currently occupies 15th place with 15 net points, well-placed to potentially climb the rankings if the predicted Mistral winds materialize. The coming days promise to be crucial for both Kempe and Penruddocke as they navigate the challenges of the French Olympic Week.
