Taylor Joins Smash Invitational Amid Kirton's Legal Issues

IslandStats.com
The Bermuda Smash Invitational has announced the signing of American all-rounder Steven Taylor for the 2025 edition of the tournament. Taylor's arrival comes as a replacement for Nicholas Kirton, whose participation has been affected by recent legal developments.

Nicholas Kirton is currently facing legal proceedings in Barbados. Reports indicate that he has been charged with drug-related offenses and is currently on bail after pleading not guilty in a Barbados court.

According to Starcom Network reports, Kirton was detained by police upon his arrival in Barbados. The charges against him include possession, trafficking, importation, and intent to supply cannabis. Following his court appearance on Friday morning, he was granted bail and is scheduled to return for a court hearing on June 2nd, the day after the Smash Invitational is scheduled to begin.

In light of these circumstances, the Bermuda Smash Invitational organizers have moved to secure Steven Taylor for the tournament.

"Steven joins a growing list of global talent heading to the island this June, and he’s not coming to sit back," BSI shared on Instagram, highlighting the exciting addition to the competition.

Taylor brings a wealth of experience and skill to the Bermuda Smash Invitational. The left-handed top-order batter and right-arm off-spinner has been a key figure for the United States national team since 2010 and has previously captained the side. His reputation for aggressive batting and useful spin bowling promises to add a dynamic element to the tournament.

The second edition of the Bermuda Smash Invitational is set to feature four franchises: Hamilton Parish Hurricanes, Pembroke Panthers, Sandys Spartans, and Smiths Sixers. The tournament will take place from June 1st to 8th at the Bermuda National Sports Center North Field.
