Virginia State University (VSU) Women's Tennis team, featuring Alexcie Burrows, displayed resilience and determination in an intense doubleheader against Bluefield State.
The first match was a closely contested battle, with both teams showcasing their skills. Despite a valiant effort, VSU narrowly fell to Bluefield State with a score of 4-3. The match's tight scoreline reflected the VSU players' tenacity and competitive spirit.
Burrows played a crucial role for VSU. In the doubles competition, Burrows teamed up with Ginger Johnson in the number 2 spot. The pair demonstrated excellent teamwork and secured a convincing 6-1 victory over Kaylee Carr and Jordyn Lambert of Bluefield State.
Burrows continued her strong performance in the singles competition. Playing in the 5th spot, she secured a dominant straight-sets victory over Carr, winning 6-1, 6-0. Her performance contributed significantly to VSU's efforts in the first match.
The second match of the doubleheader saw Bluefield State pull ahead to secure a 4-1 win. Despite this tough loss, the VSU team demonstrated resilience and sportsmanship.
Burrows and Johnson once again teamed up in the number 2 doubles spot and repeated their success, defeating Carr and Lambert with another 6-1 victory. However, in the singles match, Carr managed to get the better of Burrows, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
