The Harbourview Ballroom at the Hamilton Princess played host to the 43rd Annual Sports Awards, a night dedicated to celebrating the remarkable achievements of Bermuda's athletes, coaches, and sports administrators.
Under the theme "Rising to Greatness: Celebrating Excellence in Sport," the event highlighted the dedication and perseverance that define Bermuda's sporting community, honoring those who inspire and elevate the island's sporting legacy.
The prestigious Male Athlete of the Year award was presented to Jack Harvey. Harvey's outstanding year included competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, where he won his heat in the Men's 100 Backstroke and finished 39th overall. He also set new national records, holding all three Open National Records in the Long Course backstroke disciplines, and breaking his own national record in the Men's 100m Backstroke.
Yushae DeSilva-Andrade was named Female Athlete of the Year. DeSilva-Andrade achieved the highest ranking for a Bermudian at the Paralympic Games, earning her a number 3 World Ranking and the number 1 ranking in the Americas Region. Her exceptional performance also included a Silver Medal at the World Boccia Cup.
The Junior Male Athlete of the Year award went to Elijah Daley. Daley's impressive year saw him win four medals at the Carifta Swimming Championships (one Gold, two Silver, and one Bronze), and three medals at the Central American and Caribbean Amateur Swimming Confederation (CCCAN) Championships (one Gold and two Bronze). He also finished 35th overall at the World Aquatics Short Course Championships and won three medals at the Short Course Canadian Championships.
Katherine Wheddon was named Junior Female Athlete of the Year. Wheddon's achievements included winning the 4K distance Around the Sound, and two Silver Medals at the Carifta Swimming Championships. She consistently performed at a high level for her school, Baylor, and her club, Harbor Swim Club, often competing in freestyle events above her age category.
The 43rd Annual Sports Awards celebrated the exceptional talent and dedication of Bermuda's sporting community. The achievements of Harvey, DeSilva-Andrade, Daley, and Wheddon, along with the contributions of coaches and administrators, were recognised and celebrated, inspiring future generations of Bermudian athletes.
