Bermudians Star as Seeking Alpha Triumphs in Tricky Newcastle SailFest
The 6th annual SailFest Newcastle Regatta delivered a weekend of challenging conditions, testing the skills and adaptability of the competing crews. But through light airs, heavy gusts, harbour starts, and choppy windward-leeward courses, one vessel reigned supreme in Division 2 IRC: Seeking Alpha.
Seeking Alpha's crew, featuring Bermudian sailing talents Rockal Evans and Campbell Patton, navigated the unpredictable conditions with remarkable consistency.
Rockal Evans played a crucial role on board Seeking Alpha, taking on the demanding mast and strategist responsibilities. His tactical acumen and ability to read the wind shifts proved invaluable in guiding the team to victory. Campbell Patton, meanwhile, contributed his strength and agility in the floater/grinding position, ensuring the boat's efficiency and speed.
"A very tricky day," acknowledged Seeking Alpha owner, David Hamilton. "We'd expected a little more pressure than there was and it was all over the shop, so quite stressful sailing." This statement highlighted the challenging nature of the regatta, where crews had to constantly adjust their strategies to stay ahead of the competition.
The performances of Evans and Patton, along with their Seeking Alpha teammates, showcased the high level of sailing talent present at the regatta. Their victory in such demanding conditions is a testament to their skill, teamwork, and adaptability.
Ebbin and Tulane Crew Finish Fourth After Challenging Final Day
Christian Ebbin and his Tulane Sailing teammates faced a difficult final day at the Aaron Szambecki Team Race, hosted by Old Dominion University, ultimately finishing the regatta in fourth place.
The day commenced with 10-15 knot winds from the North-Northeast, providing challenging conditions for the sailors. The regatta organizers completed the top six/bottom four round by midday, before transitioning to a final four race, which was sailed in lighter 8-10 knot winds from the Northeast.
Unfortunately, Ebbin and his Tulane teammates experienced a tough day on the water, winning only one race and losing six. This performance resulted in them dropping from their previous day's position to finish the regatta in fourth place overall.
