Bermudian karting ace Scott Barnes has taken to the iconic Daytona International Speedway, testing his mettle in the high-octane United States Pro Karting Series – the Daytona Super Grand Prix.
Competing in the fiercely contested KA100 Masters class, Barnes began his campaign with a 13th-place finish in the practice race. His fastest lap time of 00:41.774, clocked on his fifth lap, provided a benchmark as he prepared for the heats.
In Heat 1, Barnes completed six laps, but with three laps to go and sitting in fourth place a kart right in front of him spun out and got into my back axle, forcing him to retire.
Barnes then showcased his racing pedigree in Heat 2. He surged through the field to secure a commendable 3rd-place finish, completing the 12-lap race in 8:24.375.
Barnes continued his solid form in Heat 3, navigating the challenging circuit to cross the line in 9th position. His 12-lap time of 8:22.871 demonstrated his consistency and ability to compete at the highest level.
With the heats complete, Barnes will now focus on securing a strong finish on the final day of racing. He will be aiming to capitalise on his experience and skill to climb the leaderboard and challenge for a podium position.
