Footballers experienced contrasting fortunes this week, with Nathan Trott watching from the bench in Europe, while Mia Fishel misses out on Chelsea's Champions League squad, and Khano Smith has signed an extension to his contract.
Nathan Trott
Nathan Trott travelled to London with his F.C. Copenhagen teammates for their crucial UEFA Conference League last-16 second leg clash against Chelsea. However, the Bermudian goalkeeper was an unused substitute as Copenhagen succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall's goal proved decisive, securing Chelsea's passage to the quarter-finals. Despite not featuring, Trott's involvement in the squad highlights his continued presence within the Copenhagen setup.
Mia Fishel
Chelsea striker Mia Fishel has been omitted from the club's revised squad for the knockout stages of the UEFA Women's Champions League, which commences next week.
UEFA regulations limited Chelsea to adding a maximum of three players to their squad, and Fishel was not among those selected.
Despite being included in Chelsea's matchday squads for recent fixtures against Leicester City and Crystal Palace, Fishel did not make an appearance in either game. Her last first-team outing was on February 7, 2024.
This omission represents a setback for Fishel, who will now miss out on the opportunity to compete in the latter stages of Europe's premier club competition. She will now have to focus on her domestic appearances and continue to train hard to regain her place in the Champions League squad for future seasons.
Khano Smith
Rhode Island FC coach Khano Smith has been rewarded with contract extension ahead of the season, Rhode Island FC’s leader has received a well-deserved commitment.
The soccer club's general manager and head coach, Khano Smith, agreed to a multiyear contract extension with the club on Thursday. The contract length and value have not been disclosed.
