Bermuda's Under-14 Boys' Tennis team faced a formidable challenge against Costa Rica in the 1-8 portion of the WJT (World Junior Tennis) North Central America & Caribbean Pre-Qualifying Tournament in the Dominican Republic, ultimately succumbing to a 3-0 defeat.
The Bermuda team displayed their determination, but Costa Rica's strength proved too much on this occasion.
Trystan Thompson was the first to take to the court for Bermuda. He faced a tough opponent in Samuel Romero and, despite his best efforts, Thompson fell in straight sets with a scoreline of 6-0, 6-0.
Raul Maldonado was the next Bermuda representative to compete. He faced Hector Cruz but also encountered a strong challenge, losing in straight sets with a score of 6-0, 6-0.
In the doubles match, the Costa Rican pair of Cruz and Fabian Pozuelo faced the Bermuda team of Manuel Maldonado and Thompson. The Bermuda duo fought hard, but the Costa Ricans secured victory in straight sets with a score of 6-1, 6-2.
Despite the loss to Costa Rica, the Bermuda Under-14 Boys' team will have an opportunity to finish the tournament on a positive note. They are set to face Barbados in the 7th/8th place match.
