Bermuda's Under-14 Boys' Tennis team, competing in the WJT North Central America & Caribbean Pre-Qualifying Tournament in the Dominican Republic, has taken a significant step towards securing a spot in the next phase of the World Junior Tennis Championships.
After a disappointing opening day defeat, the team, comprising Manuel Maldonado, Raul Maldonado, and Trystan Thompson, bounced back with a crucial 2-1 victory over the Bahamas.
Manuel Maldonado set the tone for Bermuda, delivering a dominant performance to defeat Harrison Van Onselen 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles match.
The Bahamas levelled the tie when Ethan Newbold defeated Raul Maldonado 6-0, 6-2 in the second singles match.
The doubles match became the decider, with brothers Manuel and Raul Maldonado teaming up for Bermuda to face Ethan Newbold and Julius Williams. The Maldonado brothers showcased their strong partnership, securing a convincing 6-1, 6-0 victory to clinch the tie for Bermuda.
This victory keeps Bermuda's hopes alive in the tournament as they continue their quest to qualify for the next stage of the World Junior Tennis Championships.
