Following our coverage of Bermuda's junior tennis team in Guatemala City, we shift our focus to the WJT North Central America & Caribbean Pre-Qualifying Tournament in the Dominican Republic, where Bermuda's Under-14 boys' team is vying for a spot in the next phase of the World Junior Tennis Championships.
The team, comprising Manuel Maldonado, Raul Maldonado, and Trystan Thompson, faced a tough challenge in their opening match against Trinidad and Tobago, narrowly losing 2-1.
Manuel Maldonado got Bermuda off to a strong start, defeating Christopher Khan in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. However, Trinidad and Tobago levelled the tie when Josiah Hills defeated Raul Maldonado 6-0, 6-0.
The doubles match became the decider, with Raul Maldonado and Trystan Thompson taking on Josiah Hills and Christopher Khan. The Trinidad and Tobago duo proved too strong, winning the match 6-0, 6-0 to secure victory for their team.
Despite the loss, the young Bermudian team will look to bounce back in their remaining matches and continue their quest for a place in the next round of the World Junior Tennis Championships.
