Middle distance athlete Shayla Cann delivered an outstanding performance for Elon University at the CAA Indoor Championships, securing a Bronze Medal and setting a new personal best in the Women's 800m.
Cann's time of 2:09.78 in the 800m not only earned her a place on the podium but also continued her impressive streak of improving her time in every 800m race this season. This performance solidifies her position as one of the top middle-distance runners in the conference.
Cann's contributions to the Elon team extended beyond her individual success. She played a crucial role as the anchor leg runner in both the 4x800m and 4x400m relay teams. The 4x800m team finished sixth with a time of 9:10.92, with Cann contributing a 2:14.28 split. The 4x400m team also secured a sixth-place finish, clocking a time of 3:48.08, with Cann running a 56.45 split.
Elon's women's track and field team finished second overall in the championships with 107.5 points, narrowly trailing champions Hampton, who finished with 110 points.
Cann's impressive performances have etched her name in Elon's record books. She now ranks third all-time in the 800m for the university and fourth in the CAA for the event.
