Day three of the ILCA Midwinters East 2025 in St. Petersburg, Florida presented sailors with another day of demanding conditions. Temperatures in the mid-60s were coupled with extremely light winds, making for tricky racing. Bermudian sailors Sebastian Kempe, Adriana Penruddocke, and Nicole Stovell continued to battle for top honors in their respective fleets.
Kempe remained dominant in the ILCA 7 fleet, further extending his lead at the top of the standings. He finished day three with 12 net points after eight races, showcasing remarkable consistency throughout the regatta. A fourth-place finish in the first race of the day, followed by a second place in the final race, solidified his position. Kempe now holds an eight-point lead over second-placed Hamilton Barclay and an eleven-point advantage over both Robby Meek and Guthrie Braun who are tied for third.
Olympian Penruddocke, competing in the ILCA 6 Radial Division, faced a challenging day on the water. She slipped slightly in the overall rankings, remaining in 26th place but with an increased net points score of 96 after eight races. A 28th and a 29th place finish in the day's races hindered her progress.
Stovell, also competing in the ILCA 6 Radial Division, experienced a setback on day three, dropping to 76th position with 166 net points. While she started the day positively with a 17th place finish, a 41st in the second race proved costly.
With just one day remaining in the competition, the Bermudian sailors will be focused on making the most of the final races to achieve their objectives at this crucial Junior Pan Am qualifier. Kempe will be aiming to secure victory in the ILCA 7 fleet, while Penruddocke and Stovell will be looking to climb the rankings in the ILCA 6 Radial Division.
